Vegan Sarees

Conventional silk is made by boiling the cocoon with the silkworm still inside it. These sarees are not. Every fabric on this shelf begins as a plant — bamboo pulp, beech pulp, wood-derived viscose, or the discarded stem of a banana tree — and none of them asks anything of an animal.

They are not a compromise on drape. Bamboo silk carries a natural sheen and stays cool in heat. Modal is roughly twice as soft as cotton and resists creasing through a long workday. Viscose holds print colour with a fluidity close to real silk. Banana fibre, the newest of the four, is light and dry and holds a pleat without help.

On the word vegan. We use it to mean no animal-derived material, which is a claim we can stand behind. We do not claim these are the lowest-impact textiles on earth — viscose and modal are chemically processed, and that is worth knowing when you buy.
