Myna – Sage Grey Bamboo Tissue Saree

Sage grey bamboo tissue, digitally printed with a flowering vine and small perching birds in blush, saffron and slate, and bordered in soft mauve. The ground carries a low shimmer that shifts as you move.

What bamboo tissue actually is. The base yarn is drawn from bamboo pulp — a fast-growing grass, regenerated without silkworms, so the cloth is vegan. What makes it tissue is the blending: fine metallic zari is spun in alongside the bamboo, so the shimmer is woven into the body of the fabric rather than printed over it. The weave is kept in a tussar-style slub, which is why the surface reads textured rather than flat.

About the digital print. The bird-and-vine motif is printed digitally, which allows a far finer gradation of colour than a block or screen can hold — petals fade, feathers keep their detail, and the pastel palette stays clean against the grey ground. It is a modern technique used on a traditional layout.

How it wears. Bamboo is light, breathable and cool against the skin, with a fall softer than tussar and none of the cling of a polyester art silk. The zari in the yarn gives it just enough body to hold a pleat. Understated enough for a daytime function or an office festival day, and the shimmer picks up beautifully under evening light.

What arrives. 5.5m saree with a matching 0.8m blouse piece, unstitched.

Care. Dry clean recommended, especially for the zari. If hand washing, use cold water and a mild detergent, do not wring, and dry in shade. Iron on low with a cloth between the iron and the fabric.

Photographed in daylight. Screens vary, so the colour may sit a shade away from the fabric in your hands. Slight slub and irregularity in the weave is the yarn, not a flaw.
