Mati Tussar Madhubani Print Saree Cream

Earth Map Saree. Dense horizontal Madhubani bands on raw Tussar silk. Natural zari border.
Horizontal registers of Madhubani motifs run across the full length in terracotta, slate blue, olive and dusty rose on a natural cream base. Each band carries a different element from the Mithila vocabulary, triangular chevrons, pot and leaf motifs, bird pairs, flowering vines, stacked in sequence the way a painted wall in Bihar would be built from floor to ceiling. No single motif dominates. The whole surface reads as one continuous illustrated story.

The pallu opens the composition further, with larger individual motifs given more space to breathe within the same horizontal band structure. A natural zari border runs the full length, quiet enough to stay in the background while the print takes the front.
Tussar silk is woven from wild silkworm cocoons gathered from forest trees in Jharkhand and Bihar. The fabric has a natural slub in the weave, a slight roughness and irregularity that no mill fabric can replicate. It takes print with depth and ages well with wear. Madhubani is a hand-painted textile and wall art tradition from the Mithila region of Bihar, where motifs drawn from nature and mythology are built in fine lines and flat colour fills passed down through generations of women artists.
